Speed or Endurance first

20220517_045734.jpg

Over the years I have alway been more focused on the endurance first. Making sure I had enough in me to make the distance of whatever event I want to do. Building a base of endurance and then slowly over time add some more speed.

As I got older I have seemed to struggled to add or increase the pace or speed.

So now after maintaining a new endurance base level for 4 to 6 weeks I have been trying to increase the speed first. Both maxium flat out speed and target goal 5km pace during different weekly workouts.

I am interested in what works for you? Speed or Endurance first?

For me i think endurance is more important in an overall sense. I've always just wanted to improve my overall cardio health and even on lazy days, I just try to keep my heart rate up for 30 minutes or more. Some days I don't even pay attention to how fast I am going and a lot of what I do is more of a fast walk that a run. I think you and I are about the same on our per km pace with a jog!

I think you are taking a good approach by almost doing both changing focus every four to six weeks. !LUV
